Giver of life through a single seed
I grew strong and tall
taller than most
My limbs were bigger
than the others surrounding me
My cover shaded all.
I stood tall,high on
the banks of the ocoee
for well over 80 years.
I have watched the dead souls
working for the company
take down every last one around me
dead souls are no match for me
I am too big for them to swing through
but I fear my time is near
the rain that gave me life
is killing me,
it’s not clean or crisp anymore
thick sulfuric rain burning down
greenery has turned brown
roots are dwindling
my thick bark hide
has become loose
stripping off of me
hell has
been cursed upon this beautiful land
even the white ocoee waters
run black now
won’t be long
I am the last living thing here
weakened and brittle
Once I remember life
thick with green as far as
I could see
all I see now is a
red moonscape above me
nothing lives here anymore
nothing breathes
just dead souls working for the company
